That was an exceptional morning in Amboseli. Might be one of a thousand, because all the ingredients for making a beautiful strong photograph were coming together, by surprise, but after so much work and perseverance. I had already been scouting the area with Juma for some hours with no results when he took his binoculars again and look very concentrated to the far end of the dry lake. He told me there was a herd of elephants about to cross it, so we immediately drove there as fast as we could. I was preparing my three cameras on the way, sitting in the back of the car, which was bumping really much. This and the wind with the dust were making the task not easy. In any case we managed to arrive there with time enough to position ourselves in a good angle with the light and this majestic elephant leading the group. I jumped out of the car and when the elephant was close, I made the shoot. I love the full composition, the lights and shadows in this image, the majestic pose and the drama. It looks something from another time…
