Elephants don’t like to be surprised. So, that morning after finding Craig in the bushes I stayed there for some time letting him to get familiar with my presence before getting out of the car, lying on the ground and make the photograph. It is thanks to my guide and the Maasai, who advise me when it is possible to get close to him. This was not our first encounter and I believe he remembered me, or at least this is how I felt. Then, probably because his curiosity, he walked towards me and stopped just in front, face to face, looking directly into my eyes. It was a very emotional moment, in absolute silence, and I observed the scene through the viewfinder of my camera. And I shooted. It was an absolute privilege to stay there, juts in front, in the company of this magnificent creature. Probably the biggest elephant in the world and one of the few left in his class. Somehow with a calm character and pacific soul. A giant in all senses. No doubt this was one of the most emotional and unique experiences I have ever had. Difficult to explain with words, but I am proud of this photo, which I believe reflects how Craig is, his essence.
